Playas del Coco is one of the most popular destinations for travelers in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica, here’s why Playas del Coco should be on your itinerary.

 

It’s easy to get to. There are a lot of beautiful destinations in Costa Rica…many of which are difficult to get to, especially if you don’t have a car. Playas del Coco is just thirty minutes from the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport airport in Liberia and five hours from the capital of San Jose. It’s a great starting point for other beautiful beaches. Playas del Coco is not home to the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica. However, it’s close to several. From Coco, you can explore many of Guanacaste’s more beautiful and popular beaches Playa Panama, Playa Conchal and Playa Bonita, among many others. No car? No worries. Many of the most beautiful beaches are boat-access only and there are plenty of tour operators in Coco willing to take you there.

It’s family-friendly. While Playas del Coco is a definite hotspot for retirees from the US and Canada, it also has a surprising amount of international families and family activities. The laid back vibe and many activities in the area make it a great Costa Rica family destination.

 

But there’s still a nightlife. Despite not being one of the big party towns, Coco does have a decent amount of nightlife. The main draw is Zi Lounge, which has live music most nights of the week and a DJ after 9pm. Coconutz is another popular place to be and The Garden Bar is the new hot spot in Coco.

 

 

Coco Beach is great for swimming. While not the most beautiful beach, Playas del Coc is great for swimming. Most of the year, the waters are calm with little to no waves, making it safe for even the little ones to swim. When the winds pick up, there can be some waves but nothing compared to the waves at the surfing beaches.
